ER Probes

The Electrical Resistance (ER) probes measure the change in the resistance (mOhms) of a corroding metal element exposed to the process stream. The action of corrosion on the surface of the probe element produces a decrease in cross-sectional area with a corresponding increase in electrical resistance.

Hydrogen Probes

Corrosion of steel in acidic environments, may occur as a result of hydrogen (H + ion) reduction. Hydrogen Probe can detect the produced hydrogen gas permeating the pipewall by monitoring the pressure increase inside the cavity of the Hydrogen Cross. The pressure buildup is directly proportional to the flux of atomic hydrogen that can be determinated according to the ideal gas Law.

Sand Probes

Sometimes an environment contains solid particles that may impinge on the metal surface thus the protective corrosion product layer or oxides can be thinned or removed and the corrosion rate will be greatly increased. EuropCorr offers four configurations to install Sand Probes depending on the installation conditions or requirements.

Electronic Sand Probe is based on the traditional Ohm’s Law as a standard ER Probe.

Probes - Corrosion, Erosion & Hydrogen

The Probes are designed to study corrosion, erosion and other phenomena that influence pipelines and vessels. Compared to traditional Coupons, this monitoring method facilitates continuous corrosion measurement without having to remove the monitoring device from service.

At a technological level we can divide them into two groups:
– Of Electronic type that generates digital data and therefore downloaded through instruments.
– Or analog type, which are connected to traditional sensors, such as a pressure gauge or a thermometer, which allow us to see the effect of corrosion directly.

For different monitoring purposes, we have a variety of probes:
– ER Probes are used to measure instantaneous metal loss and corrosion rate on time.
– LPR Probes provide instantaneous corrosion rate in waterbased environments.
– Erosion Sand Probes provide early detection of sand erosion.
– Hydrogen Probes are used to monitor hydrogen that has permeated into the steel in an acidic environment.
